Questions and answers
Is immersion being cut?
MCPS hasn't said what happens to immersion, and its study will evaluate how programs are delivered. We're tracking the open questions until MCPS answers them in writing.
Why protect immersion as it is?
MCPS's own December 2025 evaluation found very high parent satisfaction, strong student results and waitlists. MCPS has offered immersion since 1974, and students learn core subjects in the new language from kindergarten, which is what builds real fluency. The quality of the program draws families to the county and to MCPS, and in a county as diverse as ours it brings families from different backgrounds together. See Good for the whole county.
Can't a program just move to another building?
A move puts a program's teachers, classes and middle school path at risk. If MCPS proposes one, it should show how all three stay intact, and current students should be able to stay with the program.
